Clubs often ask for a valid handicap certificate. You are strongly advised to take one with you, or a letter of introduction from your home club.

WHEN TO GO
October to the end of April are the busy golfing months in Tunisia. The weather in May and September can be very warm, and the heat of June, July and August make golf difficult other than during early morning hours and late evenings.

CURRENCY
The Tunisian currency is the dinar. It is illegal to import or export dinars. Sterling can be easily converted in hotels, airports and banks where you will find the same rate of exchange and only nominal commission fees.

TIME DIFFERENCE
Tunisian time is NOW (from 2006)one hour ahead of UK TIME throughout the year.

PASSPORTS
Full UK passports are required to enter Tunisia. for NON UK passports Please ask for our advice.

GETTING THERE
The main airports at Tunis and Monastir are about two hours and 45 minutes from London. There are airports in Djerba, Tozeur, Sfax.There are no direct flights from UK to Tozeur (Change at Tunis). There are seasonal charter flights to Sfax(for Kerkenah) and also to Djerba. In the winter there are no direct services to Sfax, however there is a direct to Djerba from Gatwick.

GETTING ABOUT
Hiring a car is relatively expensive, however we have succesfully negotiated new low prices for 2006(from only £25. per day) On the other hand, travelling in the cities by taxi is fairly cheap and there is also a reliable rail network, seven day rail passes covering the whole of the country start from only £20.00 or a rail pass which also allows entry into all museums from only £30.00.

RELIGION
Tunisia is a very tolerant Muslim country, but religion remains a big influence on society.

INJECTIONS
They are not required, unless advised by your doctor.

LANGUAGE
The first language is Arabic, but if you are a French speaker you will have no problems communicating. Also, German and English are widely spoken in the tourist centres of Tunisia.

DRESS CODE
Casual holiday clothing is acceptable, and topless sunbathing is allowed on tourist beaches. Respectable dress - with shoulders and upper legs covered - should be worn at religious sites.

Carthage: The remains of Hannibal's capital city are just a few miles from Tunis.
Holy City of Kairouan: This city at the heart of the country is the fourth most important in Islam after Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem. The Great Mosque is the highlight.
Desert safari: A two or three-day trip to the Sahara includes remote desert towns, the salt lakes of the Chott el Jerid, and the Troglodyte village of Matmata, where Star Wars was filmed.
Shopping: The markets, or souks, are the best place to find bargains - haggling is a must.
